Bunting Family Pharmacy Athletes of the Week: Mainland Regional boys swimming team

The Mainland Regional boys swimming team put together perhaps the greatest season in South Jersey history this year, and that's saying something considering the Mustangs went 15-0 and won the state championship a year ago.
Mainland repeated that feat again, going 15-0 and winning another state championship. For their efforts, the entire Mustangs team is our Bunting Family Pharmacy Athletes of the Week.
And the Mustangs didn't just win another state championship, they did it in the type of dominating fashion rarely seen in South Jersey — or anywhere else in the state. During the dual meet season, just one team — Millville — held Mainland to less than 100 points. And just two teams, Absegami and St. Augustine Prep, scored more than 50 points against the Mustangs. Even in the state championship meet, Scotch Plains-Fanwood had no chance. Mainland finished in first place in seven of the 11 events and cruised to a 103-67 victory.
Not only that, behind freshman phenom Destin Lasco, his older brother, Glenn, and seniors Brian McGroarty and Justin Liu, Mainland set five national records this season.
The Mustangs even dominated the Meet of Champions, winning six of the 11 races that featured the best individual swimmers in New Jersey. Destin Lasco set meet records in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 backstroke, and he also anchored the winning 400 freestyle relay team that set a meet record and led off the winning 200 medley relay squad.
Liu won the 50 and 100 freestyle events and was on both winning relay teams. In addition, Lasco and Liu teamed up with Joey Rogers and Erik Truong to win the 200 medley relay.
