Preventing injury, staying fit is the key to golf enjoymentBy SEAN FAWCETT
Golfers looking to get “golf fit” have a place to go, and that place is Aaron Bada’s golf and sports performance club — Golf Specific Fitness — in Somers Point.
For more than 16 years, and now entering its third summer at its newer, and larger, 4,000-square-foot location at the intersection of Bay and Longport avenues, Aaron Bada’s Golf Specific Fitness, or GSF, is an incredible and unique, and generally golf targeted, athletic training boutique. Here athletes can go to improve or maintain their physical fitness, strengthen weaknesses, recover from injuries, prevent injury, and develop and sharpen their games. The beautiful, state-of-the-art physical training and golf improvement center is open to all golfers, as well as athletes of all ages and abilities — not just golfers.
“Our objective is get golfers and athletes in the best athletic playing shape possible so they can enjoy the games for a lifetime,” Bada said.
Bada, who has a degree in health promotion from The College of Charleston in South Carolina, where he also served two years as an assistant golf professional under renowned PGA golf instructor Hart Brown at The Country Club of Charleston, has a specialized and highly-qualified expertise in guiding golfers to get the best out of their bodies and swings.
“Being a golf professional, and a golfer myself, definitely helps,” Bada said. “We cater to the individual, no matter what sport they play. In golf, we focus on the golfer’s personality, physical ability and expertise. The thing I want to help my players do is to help them keep improving, growing and loving golf, and to keep playing — and play injury free.”
Golf Specific Fitness features golf’s top strength and conditioning machines plus ropes, balance balls and weights, in a spacious gym with massage/stretching tables and a yoga room with yoga classes, a TruGolf indoor golf simulator, TrackMan swing analysis equipment and a TOMI putting system.
Bada’s personalized attention helps clients from ages 8 to 80, which include many top junior, high school and college athletes, as well as golfers throughout South Jersey. Bada’s staff includes Orthopedic Sports Massage Specialist and Yin Toga instructor Donna Innis, and Health Fitness Specialist (ACSM) and Power Yoga instructor Erica Picking.
New to the GSF family is PT, DPT, Dan Gorrin, of the Bacharach Institute for Rehabilitation. Gorrin’s physical therapy is part of a new partnership with Bacharach and GSP. Gorrin has a Level 1 Titleist Performance Institute certification. GSP is also partnering with Egg Harbor Township’s Hidden Creek Golf Club to offer fitness and training clinics to its members.
“We are pleased and excited about our partnership with Hidden Creek and to have Bacharach and Dan working with us,” Bada said. “It’s a an important step in our on-going plan to offer the best and most comprehensive performance improvement experience for golfers, and athletes in other sports as well.
“We focus a lot on posture, physicality and flexibility,” explained Bada. “It’s about core strength and range of motion and balance. That’s where the power in the golf swing comes from. You need to be flexible, coordinated, balanced, and have good timing. All of that needs to come together to get the kind of club-head speed, power, distance and consistency, we all want."
